VfL Bochum 1848 secured a valuable point in their fight against relegation on Sunday, holding Hertha BSC to a 0-0 draw in the Bundesliga. The result leaves Bochum just three points above the relegation zone with three matches remaining, while Hertha missed a chance to move up the table and secure their place in the top half.
Bochum started the match brightly and had the better chances in the first half. Sebastian Polter came close to giving the visitors the lead when he was fouled by Dedryck Boyata on the edge of the penalty area, but his free kick clipped the crossbar. Hertha gradually grew into the game and had their own chances in the second half, but they were unable to find a breakthrough against a resolute Bochum defense.
The draw extends Bochum's unbeaten run to four matches, giving them hope of survival in the Bundesliga. Hertha, meanwhile, remains in 11th place, just four points clear of the relegation zone.
